My guest today is Eldonna Fernandez, CEO of Dynamic Vision International, who provides negotiation, leadership, and communication training to corporate clients and small business owners internationally. As human beings we often make mistakes, tell white lies, and secretly desire things we shouldn’t. These actions could be considered sins. However, often they are not considered deadly. As a speaker there are similar actions a speaker could take that absolutely could be deadly and ruin their reputation for life. The 7 Deadly Sins are:
1. Pride - A desire to be important or attractive to others or excessive love of self.
Speaker – Thinking you’re so good that don’t need any training, you act arrogant and conceited. No rapport building with audience.
2. Envy (jealousy) – hating other people for what they have – thinking the person himself should have more, even if it means someone else will have less.
Speaker - Being jealous of other speaker, wanting their speaking engagements. Speaking bad about them. Bad mouthing them.
3. Wrath – Inappropriate feelings of hatred, revenge or even denial.
Speaker – Hating other speakers, hating your audience, seeks revenge. Making them look bad.
4. Gluttony - Wasting of food either through eating too much food, drink or drugs, misplaced desire for food for it taste, or not giving food to the needy.
Speaker – asking for more time to speak, stealing time from other speakers. wasting your time to speak, not sharing your good content with your audience. Holding back, being selfish.
5. Lust - Unlawful sexual desire such as desiring sex with a person outside marriage
Speaker – Desire for what another speaker has, going after that, ie assistant, booking agent.
6. Sloth – Laziness, idleness, and wastefulness of time a person has.
Speaker - Not doing the work, not practicing enough. Winging the speech.
7. Greed – is when somebody wants more things than the person needs or can use. Too much love of money and power.
Speaker – overprices products and services, does not give discounts or money back.

Enthusiasm is power, and any speech can be made more powerful if presented with enthusiasm and gusto! Too often speakers forget that they are performers as well as informers. Enthusiasm is key to achieving speaking success with every speech. Here is how to do it:
- Share your passion – if you are not passionate about your topic, no one else will be
- Move your body – add more body language
- Use descriptive words and word pictures, for example: say home instead of house
- Don’t be on a constant high or over-enthusiastic – it will feel fake
- No notes or PowerPoint – that’s right! Do not depend on notes or you will fail
- Use props – whether you are speaking in the virtual world or in-person, props are fun to use
- Tell stories – become a master storyteller and captivate your audience
- Practice, practice, practice – rehearse 1 hour for every 2 minutes of speech
Take a listen and add more enthusiasm to every speech!

When you give your signature talk over and over again, it can become stale. There are 6 ways to keep it fresh and put the “spring” back into it.
S = Stories: change the delivery of your professional story
P = PowerPoint: change the pictures and design
R = Rehearse: practice a different way or in a new location
I = Invitation: change your call to action
N = Narrative: change your words and content
G = Grabber: create a new attention grabber to start your speech
You don’t have to change all 6 items to keep your speech fresh, change 3 or 4 at a time and see what happens. Take a listen and keep your speech alive!

You have your signature talk ready to go at a moment’s notice. What happens if the event organizer wants a different topic? Or what if your audience, community, or tribe wants you to go deeper on a particular subject. What do you do? How do you find new material? It’s easy!
Here are 5 ways you can create a new topic out of an idea:
1) Look at past topics you have completed. Don’t just dust them off and use, instead re-fresh and re-purpose the idea,
2) Look through industry magazines for ideas, look at article titles and columns,
3) Ask the event organizer what outcome they are looking for,
4) Get ideas from online projects or products you so someone else has previously created,
5) Do your own social media research such as in Facebook groups or YouTube videos looking for catchy titles and topics. Comb the internet for ideas, trends, and innovations. Do not copy, only use these ways to get a spark for your own direction for your speaking topic.
